FFLA lead a multi-disciplinary team in the preparation of a strategy for regional trails (predominantly for walking and cycling use) for Western Metropolitan Melbourne. The project involved working closely with the six Local Government Authorities (Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham) and Sport and Recreation Victoria as a funding partner. The strategic recommendations made are based upon data collected as part of the project (including an audit and data collection across more than 250km of existing trail network undertaken by bicycle using GPS technology) as well as engagement activities. The engagement included targeted meetings with key stakeholders and authorities, on-trail information stands, and a web-based questionnaire regarding the use of trails and priorities for improvement works.
